Out, treacherous villain! Thou call’st on him that hates thee. It was he that made the overture of thy treasons to us, who is too good to pity thee” (3.7. 87-89)

In act 3, there were many important events that occurred. From King Lear losing his mind and not wanting to seek shelter, to Regan and Cornwall taking Gloucester’s eyes out, act 3 was very interesting. Throughout reading it, one theme really stuck out to me: The truth always prevails. There is a lot of cover up and dishonesty in this act, such as Edgar dressing up as “poor tim” and Kent being disguised as Caius.

However, the most important truth that was revealed happened in the end of act 3, scene 7 when Edmund’s evil plan to make Edgar seem guilty is found out. Right as Gloucester is about to get his last eye plucked out of his head by Cornwall, he calls out for Edmund. Regan responds by saying, “Out, treacherous villain! Thou call’st on him that hates thee. It was he that made the overture of thy treasons to us, who is too good to pity thee” (3.7. 87-89). Gloucester calls out and admits that Edgar has been abused and for the Gods to forgive him and to let him prosper.

I did not read ahead to Act 4, but I would imagine that Edgar will try to get back at Edmund for setting him up. I believe that in life, the truth will eventually always prevail. While looking on CNN.com this past week, I stumbled upon an article that’s title read “Wrongfully imprisoned man gets free trip to Super Bowl“. It’s about a man who spent 10 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. His father never stopped fighting for innocence because he didn’t believe his son committed the murder he was found guilty to when he was 17 years old. He was released in 2013 and now received an all-expenses paid for trip to the Super Bowl with his father. It is similar to King Lear because innocent people were both convicted of committing a crime and were punished for it. What are other examples or instances of lies in King Lear so far? Do you think any of them will be revealed and exposed? IF so, which ones?
